Once you are set up and logged in to MailChimp, the best place to start is with your Template. Many people get confused about the difference between Templates and Campaigns, but a MailChimp Template is simply a blueprint/design that you use to base the rest of your campaigns on. A campaign is where you send an email to your subscribers/contacts.

Setting up a strong, stylish and to brand template will make your email marketing campaigns consistent and professional.
When it comes to creating my MailChimp templates; I try to think of them as another page of my website. By that I mean I want it to look like it belongs with the other pages of my site, so my customers know that when they see my emails that it is from me! So to do that, I ensure that my logo is used at the top of the email, my section background colours match my site, my fonts are similar to those on my site (I say similar as we are limited to the number of fonts we can use within email marketing – as I say, it hasn’t changed much since the 90s remember!), and that I am using similar images.
Don’t forget to include clear call to action buttons at the end of every section of your template. As the idea of our emails is to essentially get people back to our website right? So if there are no clear call to action buttons to click, then how are people going to react to what you are saying within the email. Make your call to actions in your branded colours too.
You can also add your website link to your logo, images and text within the templates – just like you do in a website. And MailChimp makes it easy to add in your social media links too.
Don’t add too much text to your templates, as people are only like to skim your emails. The average person only looks at an email for 12 seconds. You can add as much information to your site, but ensure your emails are looking clean and simple.
Ensure to break your template up into a few sections to make it easier to read. Adding line breaks or changing a section background can help. Also using images can help break up a design.
All of the modules you need are on the right-hand side of a template, where you can drag and drop them into the areas of your template you wish.
In my Online MailChimp Courses, I will show you all of the tips and tricks to make a great looking template and to ensure you are accessing all of MailChimp’s design features. I run through every area of templates in my videos, so you can watch as you work along with them.
Branding Emails That Are Outstanding
Email marketing’s technology has not really changed since the 90s, but it is still as popular as ever – with over 4 billion people around email around the world. It is still the most direct method of reaching internet users today.
